With
a vision of producing the finest ice cream in Ontario, Slickers
opened its doors in 1999. Owners Marie Frye and Pat Hacker
have expanded into manufacturing a wide range of superb local
flavours, operating Slickers Ice Cream on Main St. in Bloomfield, as well as supplying several retail outlets and a number of local restaurants and wineries..
A "Thesaurus" of descriptives can be used
to describe Slickers award-winning ice cream: pure, delicious,
a taste experience, very special treat, superior quality, real
(especially the ingredients), memories of good times, of summer
when the living is easy ...
But
it's not until you enter the Slickers store that you really
understand how special they are. It's the friendly personal service,
the smiles, the helpful staff who encourage you to taste the choice
of daily flavours - and then it's the ice cream itself. Made from
pure, mostly local ingredients, over 40 flavours range from Honey
Vanilla to Apple Pie, Rhubarb Ginger, and Campfire Crème.
With about a dozen basic flavours, every week seasonal favourites
such as Maple Crème, Strawberry, Pumpkin, Cantaloupe and
Concord Grape are added to the list.
"We maintain a very personal hands-on
management of both the manufacture and the service," boasts
co-owner Marie Frye. "And because we developed the product
and the store from scratch, we really know what it's like trying
to serve 20 people at once - and keep a smile on your face!"
In
Bloomfield, the historic home of Slickers, a wonderful
new outlet was built on Main Street. The Bloomfield store, designed
by Rick Gorus in keeping with the village architecture, offers
a friendly "County" welcome.
"We want customers to feel that a trip
to Slickers is more than just buying an ice cream,"
states co-owner Pat Hacker. "It's really important to us
that everyone who comes to our store really enjoys the experience
- just like a memory of happy childhood vacations."
